Hollywood Crew List
Hollywood Crew Blacklist

Hollywood Crew Blacklist not a bad site to visit before agreeing to work with anybody... I actually have my own Beware story.
When doing your first film, short, or video get as many references as possible.
If you do not you might get someone who has credits but lacks talent and professionalism.
I hired Marvin, besides complaints from the actors, look above at the pictures from the shoot to get your own idea.
a)Top picture - Your film is your film. Under no circumstances should the camera person go out there way to use an ad/poster (from their friends movie) in your movie. This picture shows how a movie poster that has nothing to do with the scene and is unrealistic for the shot was planted in my scene.
b) Middle picture - When given money to hire a crew that person should hire the crew or that may be considered stealing. In this shot Marvin decides to be the boom operator. Although this isn't quite a boom mic he brought to the set, even still let the professionals handle it, otherwise you'll get a mic in 90% of your shots if you let him do it.
c) Last picture - Hollywood CA, too many actors to choose from. However, Marvin lied and claimed he had a solid confirmation from a D list actor. Instead of coming clean about the lie in enough time to find a real actor, without notice he casted himself in my film. Very unprofessional.
This person is such a liar when he was sued he gave the judge false contact information and additional legal action is pending. Keep your money, don't waste your time. Other actors report same disappointment when working with this person.
Bottom line you may actually be able to do your short film without hiring someone else as producer/director. When you set your mind to it you'll be surprise what you can accomplish even though you don't have Hollywood connections.
Here are some sites with information so you can get started on your own shoot. Release Forms etc. Actors Actors Locations Equipment - union and student discounts WGA SAG - get actors contact info.

Hollywood Crew Blacklist not a bad site to visit before agreeing to work with anybody... I actually have my own Beware story.
1. Although I was paying as I go, they didn't work, because what I found out is the money wasn't going to where I thought it was going. Therefore, I asked to be furnished an invoice or itemized list on where the money was spent...after giving my PA a sad $20 out of a budget of $3K, things seemed fishy. Even after a phone mediation this "producer" (Marvin Hayes) will not provide the records showing where the money was spent.....what does he have to hide?
2. pre-production casting call - pretty much had 1 choice to choose from. This is LA! it's not hard to find actors... if you're a professional. Why did he show up to the set stating he was going to act in my film! Since the charade of him stating he had an actor " in the bag" was up... who does that? Out of 10 actors needed, less than half were found, and out of that - 3 were found during the casting call he set up (not even the lead character - which is kinda important)
3. Asked to scout locations - excuse after excuse... had to find my own location.
Bottom line you may actually be able to do your short film without hiring someone. When you set your mine you'll be surprise what you can accomplish even though you don't have Hollywood connections.

Feedback from actress regarding independent contractor
" I will make myself available to shoot the additional scene under the following circumstances: 1. I'd rather not work with that Director. Nothing personal, he just needs more training."
